09.03.10 Philip Morris, a major tobacco company, is suing the state of Norway for making it illegal to display tobacco products in stores. From January 1st it became illegal to keep tobacco in the shelves visible for customers. According to HSH, The Federation of Norwegian Commercial and Service Enterprises, the ban has cost Norwegian kiosks and grocery stores more than half a billion. |

It enables us to invest and hire more employees than the 27.500 people that are now part of the Reitan system, the CEO and owner, Odd Reitan, said at the press conference for the publication of the 2009 result. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization increased with almost 600 million NOK from 2008 to 2009. |

Rema 1000 number one chain in Finnmark |

05.03.10 Last year Rema 1000 became the biggest grocery chain in the Finnmark region for the first time. From a total turnover of groceries in the region, Rema 1000 had a turnover 2.2 billion NOK, or 33.5 percent. Coop was second with a market share measured in turnover of 31.8 percent. |

25.02.10 Tine, a major producer of dairy products, had a great developmet of its result in 2009. The turnover ended at 18.9 million NOK and the result after taxes was 674 million NOK. The main factors behind the result is a focus on costes, innovation and increased sales. |

Johannson may be the most powerful man in the Norwegian grocery business. He is chairman of NorgesGruppen which controls 40 percent of the grocery stores in Norway. |

Taking more control of the food supply from the agricultural cooperatives will lead to cheaper groceries for the consumer. Rema works to get more of its own products in the store. In the future there will be more of a mix between private labels and brands. |
