Authority worries about competition for the gasoline market |
Reitan ready to launch 7-Eleven at gasoline stations | |
|
The Norwegian Competition Authority worries about the competition in the gasoline station market. Shell and Statoil dominate the market. Yesterday Magnus Reitan, the managing director of Reitan Servicehandel, and the head of Nordic operations Birger Baisgård celebrated the Shell/7-Eleven cooperation. Shell will take over the 91 stations owned by YX, while 7-Eleven will operate the kiosks at Shell stations. The Norwegian Competition Authority have followed the gasoline stations market closely. Recent acquisitions have contributed to the worries of the authority. |
After a year of testing Reitan Servicehandel is ready to launch the 7-Eleven concept, that will be implemented at Shell and the former YX gasoline stations. The concept will be presented today at Shell Tåsen in Oslo. The concept has been tested for a year at Tåsen and in Fetsund. |

![]() Norwegian gasoline stations increased the turnover by 11 percent from June last year to June of this year. Hungry customers and higher gasoline prices are behind the increased. The turnover of gasoline stations increased 480 million NOK, or 16.3 percent. At the same time the price of gasoline has increased 12.7 percent, according to numbers from Statistics Norway. The customers spent more than 210 million NOK on fast-food in June. The sale of such food has increased by 3.9 percent from June last year and now make up five percent of the turnover at gasoline stations. |
15.08.08 The retail price index increased 0.7 percent from June to July, according to numbers from SSB. The price of food increased 2.1 percent. Prices of meat, products from grains and dairy products contributed particularly to the increase. The rise of food prices must be seen in connection with the increased subsidies to the agricultural sector in Norway.
